1 Overview
Fontora ("we", "us", or "our") operates the fontora website (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit our website and use our free font discovery and download service.
🔒 Our commitment: Fontora is designed with privacy in mind. We do not sell your personal data, do not use advertising trackers, and do not require account creation. The website works entirely in your browser.
2 Information We Collect
We collect minimal information necessary to provide the Service:
| Type of Data | Collected? | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Name / Email | No (unless you contact us) | Only if you send us an email via the contact form |
| IP Address | Temporary | Used briefly by geolocation service to detect your country for language preference |
| Browser Language | Yes | Used to auto-select your preferred UI language |
| Search Queries | No | All font searches happen locally in your browser and are never sent to a server |
| Download History | No | Font downloads are direct file transfers — we don't track who downloads what |
| Cookies / Trackers | No advertising cookies | We only use localStorage to remember your language preference |
3 Geolocation & Language Detection
To provide an automatic language experience, Fontora may detect your approximate location using your IP address when you first visit. Here is exactly how this works:
- On your first visit, your browser sends a request to a third-party geolocation API (ipapi.co, ipapi.com, or api.country.is) to determine your country code.
- Only your country-level location is used — we never see your city, street, or exact coordinates.
- This information is used once to select a default UI language and is not stored on our servers.
- You can dismiss the language suggestion or change your language at any time using the 🌐 language switcher in the header.
- Your language choice is saved in your browser's localStorage for return visits.
⚠️ Note: Geolocation is optional. If you block the request or it fails, the website falls back to your browser's language setting and then to English. The Service works fully without geolocation.
4 Cookies & Local Storage
Fontora does not use HTTP cookies for tracking or advertising. We do use your browser's localStorage for the following functional purposes:
- fontora-lang — stores your selected UI language code (e.g., "hi", "en", "ar") so we don't ask again on return visits.
- fontora-geo-dismissed — remembers if you dismissed the language detection banner.
These are first-party storage items that never leave your device. You can clear them at any time through your browser settings without affecting the website's functionality.
Font files you preview are temporarily cached by your browser for performance — this is standard browser behavior and not a tracking mechanism.
5 Font Files & Downloads
All font files on Fontora are open-source and licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 or Apache License 2.0. Key points:
- Font files are hosted on our server and downloaded directly to your device when you click "Download".
- We do not require an account, email address, or any personal information to download fonts.
- Downloads are served as static files and we do not log or track individual download activity with identifying information.
- Some large CJK fonts (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) may load from the Google Fonts CDN when previewed — these requests are subject to Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
6 Third-Party Services
Fontora uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing data they process:
- ipapi.co / ipapi.com / api.country.is — Used solely for country-level geolocation to auto-select your language. Receives your IP address temporarily. See their privacy policies for details.
- Google Fonts CDN — Used only to preview very large CJK font files (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) that would otherwise be too large to bundle. Google may receive your IP address when these fonts load. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- jsDelivr CDN — Used during font acquisition to source open-source font files from the Google Fonts GitHub repository. No end-user data is sent to jsDelivr during normal website use.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, advertising networks, or any other third-party tracking scripts on this website.
7 Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location (such as the EU under GDPR, India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, or California under CCPA), you may have the following rights:
- Right to Access: Know what personal data is being collected about you.
- Right to Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to Opt-Out: Decline geolocation or change your language preference at any time.
- Right to Data Portability: Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
Since Fontora does not collect or store personal data on our servers (other than emails you voluntarily send us), most of these rights can be exercised simply by clearing your browser's localStorage. For any additional requests, please contact us using the details below.
8 Children's Privacy
Fontora is suitable for users of all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). The website contains no advertising, no user accounts, and no data entry beyond the optional contact form. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of Fontora after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
